I have an old NEC laptop (VersaPro series) that I bought from Japan; about 7 years ago. The computer gets hot at the bottom sometimes, but it hasn’t really affected its performance.
I turned into tonight and it was one for maybe 5 minutes before the screen went black and stalled. The fan was still running, so I shut it down by holding the power button down. Afterwards, I wasn’t able to turn it back on and still haven’t been able to do so.
Any help with this would be appreciated. Thanks!
I turned it on again a minute ago; the fan can be heard running. That’s all; the screen is still completely blank.

Whenever I rip a CD, near the ending of this process the ripping slows down a lot and the hard drive starts making weird noises, like turning a fan on and off all the time… but in a certain pattern of 3 seconds on and another 3 seconds off, and when the CD finishes ripping, I listen to the song that was to be ripped when this problem occurs and it happens to play skipped… like if the CD was scratched.
This happens specially with my CD: Urban Hymns, by The Verve and Made In Japan, by Deep Purple. The songs in which this problem occurs are “Come On” (15:13) and Space Truckin (19:40) and a couple of other discs as well.
This computer is new, it’s a laptop HP that I bought 3 months ago.
How can I fix this problem?
Well how do you reduce the read process of the disc, then ?
I use Winamp. It’s no good, because when I choose to rip up to 0.5x or even 2x, it still rips with a speed of 23x or 24x. How did you solve it ? Using which softwares or programs to rip?

I own an I-O Data HDCN External Hard Drive that I bought in Japan and use on my MacBook. When I bought the hard drive, it said that I can use it both on Windows and Mac systems. I’m having a problem now though which is that it works perfectly fine on my Mac but if I try to plug it into other computers or laptops that run Windows on it, it shows up in the Device Manager, but doesn’t show up in My Computer, so there’s no way to actually access the contents of the drive. I checked the permissions on the hard drive through my Mac and changed it so that it’s both readable and writable to anyone, but it still doesn’t work. Is there anyway that I can fix this problem at all?
I’m currently living in Japan and would like to be able to rent movies, but I also want to be able to play my DVDs that I brought from home.
I know I’m able to switch back and forth between regions on my laptop up to 4 times, but I’d like to know if I can install some sort of software that will enable the player to play both (or all) regions an unlimited number of times.
I have a Dell Inspiron and I use PowerDVD.
I’m fairly computer savvy, but I’d rather not have to do anything too technical, if there’s something I can just download and install that’d be wonderful.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I bought a Gateway laptop 1 1/2 years ago & have had nothing but problems with it. I’ve had to do 4 system restores because it either gets a virus or it crashes. Even after doing what the tech support told me to do, it still runs like crap. I did research last year and asked friends. The sales person even recommended it. Therefore, I do not want to purchase another lemon. I have been doing research online and I keep finding people’s opinions on what is the best. I am looking for a computer that will suit my needs. I am an Internet junkie. I live in Japan and I download American TV shows. I also use the Internet for research. I make many worksheets & PowerPoint presentations for my work. I also do a lot of photo editing & video production. In short, I need a computer that can handle multiple applications running at the same time, & not run like a snail. I also need one that will not get viruses & has excellent tech support. I am trying to stay under $1,000. Dell, HP, Sony, or MAC?
Hello, I live in Japan and have a dsl connection and would like to connect it to my laptop that runs on ubuntu linux.
The problem is that the local internet company gave me some ’special’ software that I needed to install just to use the internet. They don’t have a linux version and when I asked them for help they just told me sorry, we don’t support linux computers.
I’m not an advanced linux user but is there anything I can do?
Thanks.
my laptop computer is made in japan and all the data is in japanese..i dont know where the tool is?please tell me how to locate ie so i can delete all my searches in the google and yahoo box search…
Hi.
I have Adobe Photoshop CS2 installed on my laptop computer and was using it to edit my digital photos.
After trying to print them and then trying to view them on other screens i have seen that they look nothing alike (the colours are all different).
So there is no point editing the photos to make them look good because when i put them on Flickr or try to print them, they will look completely different to other people when they try to view them on Flickr???
I’m going to Japan as a foreign exchange student in 3 weeks for a year and am taking my laptop and my Nikon D40…I was planning on taking many good photos and then editing them…but if they will look completely different is there any point in trying to edit them whilst i am over there???
My baggage limit is 20kg in a single bag,….so it is not very easy to buy an external monitor and take with me, and my host family might not have room in their car when they pick me up??
Any suggest. or ideas help.
Thanks
