I’m currently living in Japan and would like to be able to rent movies, but I also want to be able to play my DVDs that I brought from home.
I know I’m able to switch back and forth between regions on my laptop up to 4 times, but I’d like to know if I can install some sort of software that will enable the player to play both (or all) regions an unlimited number of times.
I have a Dell Inspiron and I use PowerDVD.
I’m fairly computer savvy, but I’d rather not have to do anything too technical, if there’s something I can just download and install that’d be wonderful.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try looking for the make of player on this site:
You might want to check this forum which discusses this. One of the things suggested is application software called anyDVD, which supposedly removes the region code from DVDs you put in your DVD drive.
This site has some information you may want to check. So do these:
If all else fails and you can afford it, you might want to consider buying an external DVD drive which can be plugged into your laptop. Dell has some and – that way you could play all of the Region 2 DVDs on an external device and wouldn’t be changing the Region code on your laptop’s DVD drive. Apparently, the region code is on the drive, itself, so this should work. Check for some confirmation of that.
I’ve never played other than a Region 1 DVD in my drive, so I can’t tell you how well anyDVD (or other software like it) would work. Obviously no expert, I’ve been researching it because I think this division of the world into six separate regions is pure Hollywood rot.
Hopefully something in this rambling reply will help.
